So, upon seeing the movie a second time, I have a question.

New paragraph so that if Kinja ever fixes the content display, my question won’t be visible from the Oppo page.

1970. U.S. military base in New Jersey with a Willys MB/Ford GPW.

Was that just carelessness, or were any MBs still in use 25 years after the war?

good point - in the mid 70s we had a small reserve base near by (my little brother went to pre-school there) and I don’t remember any orig WWII era stuff, mostly those bigger m151/ M825s

Have seen it too. Don’t know the Jeep answer, but I noticed the black Audi E-Tron from about an hour into the movie makes internal combustion noises.

It even says “E-Tron” on the front. I’m really confused.

They had an article on the FP about that:

There were successors that looked pretty much the same (I honestly couldn’t tell you the difference) in some sort of use until the Humvee came along in the 80s.

I'm guessing it's one of those instances where they say "close enough" because only nerds like us will notice

Wow. I totally missed that. Actually pretty fascinating approach to pedestrian safety, better than the beep-beeps of the current vehicles for sure.

Audi E-Trons in that universe could just be faking ICE noise for the benefit of the driver. A few cars in the real world had fake audio engine noises added, much to tha chagrin of the commentariat of Jalopnik.

It isn’t hard for me to imagine Tony Stark test driving the thing and coming away with ‘needs more noise’ and either installing an engine sound system himself, or have Audi do it as a favor to him for getting all of Shield and everybody else to drive/buy Audis in that Universe.

Yes, the MB remained in use by American forces through the Korean and Vietnam Wars .

While the Army had mostly moved to the Ford M151 “Mutt”, the Willy’s MB was to be found.

It was definitely  a WWII vehicle: 9-slot grille.

The Jeep used during the Korean War was its successor, the M38A1. If any MBs were used, they would have been strictly on bases back home (li ke this one).
